Responsibilities

The Food Service Aide/ Food Prep provides effective and timely assistance in setting up and delivering food trays and supplements.  To maintain the kitchen and its contents in proper working condition and in a clean and sanitary state. Some responsabilities include:

  • Receives and stores food and supplies by properly labeling, dating and rotating items according to the Food Service Management System.
  • Assists cook with food preparation as necessary. 
  • Cleans and maintains assigned equipment, work areas, dining room and dish and dish room (after use) on a daily basis in accordance with cleaning guidelines in the Food Service Management System.
  • Reports all non-functioning areas to the management team.
  • Practices infection control techniques through proper dress and personal hygiene.
  • Practices proper disposal of garbage and follows proper safety procedures.
  • Displays a concerned, pleasant, positive attitude when working with residents, visitors, and fellow employees.
  • Prepares salads and desserts as specified by the menu.  Assists cooks with food preparation such as cleaning chicken, vegetables, mixing and chopping.
  • Places appropriate items on resident trays, follows menus to ensure all trays are complete and proper diets are received.
  • Prepares and delivers supplemental feeding to residents according to the schedule prepared by the Director of Food Service. 
  • Sets-up and breaks down dining room for each meal period. Washes all tables and chairs.  Replenishes sugar, pepper and straws.  Changes tablecloths weekly, or as needed.
  • Strips all trays and places soiled dishes in the dish room. Cleans all food trucks.
  • Maintains up-to-date resident tray cards. (Communicating likes and dislikes.)
  • Prepares all items required for the next meal such as silverware, condiments, bread, etc.
  • Performs routine housekeeping tasks; project cleaning.
  • Follows procedures outlined in the Food Service Management System pertaining to Isolation Cases.
  • Helps with food preparation, sets-up and serves as required at special activities or special events.
  • Uses proper procedures when answering the telephone. States name and identifies the department.

Qualifications

  • One year experience in commercial cooking or health care food preparation is preferred.
  • Ability to demonstrate safe food handling practices; an awareness of the requirements for careful handling and economy of food and kitchen processes.
  • Must be clean and well-groomed.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English both orally and in writing as applicable to their job responsibilities.
  • Numerical ability necessary to make various computations in keeping records and in recipe preparation.
  • Ability to operate food service equipment; able to handle practice and follow safety procedures for using equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to read, understand and follow recipe directions, diet orders and work assignments. Able to troubleshoot equipment malfunctions 
  • Ability to communicate at all levels, provide instruction and train other employees as required.
